MACADAM & ASPHALT

Scotshouse Quarries manufacture all grades of Macadam & Asphalt in our state-of-the-art CE Marked computerised batching plant. Our Macadam and Asphalt complies with the requirements of the TII Specification for Road Works and is certified to I.S EN 13108. The aggregates used to make our macadam are high PSV aggregates which are essential for Wearing Courses, this means our stone wears slowly and maintains its skid resistance for longer.

ASPHALT PRODUCTS

Our Bituminous products can be categorised into main groups:

  • Asphaltic Concrete (Macadam)
  • Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)
  • Hot Rolled Asphalt (HRA)
  • Porous Asphalt
  • Surface Quickfix (Pothole Repair)

  •  Asphaltic Concrete (Macadam)
Asphaltic Concrete is a dense, medium or open-graded blend of aggregate, crushed rock fines and bitumen that complies to IS EN 13108 & TII Specification for Roadworks.
  • Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)
SMA is a durable, hard wearing material which saw it predominately used on surface courses on higher volume roads, but modifications to the mix design has seen it become a very popular and attractive material for less trafficked areas such driveways, yards and house fronts etc.
  • Hot Rolled Asphalt (HRA)
Hot Rolled Asphalt is a dense mixture of a high percentage of sand with course aggregate and bitumen. The high sand and bitumen content of HRA make it very durable material and ideal for heavily stressed areas.
  • Porous Asphalt
Porous Asphalt is a product designed for use as a surfacing layer in Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) applications. This open graded product is designed to let surface water soak through and into a permeable stone layer beneath.
  • Surface Quickfix
Surface Quickfix is a cold, ready to use material which is produced using a modified bitumen, this in turn delays the curing process of the macadam thus keeping it working for longer periods. This material will provide an immediate repair solution to potholes, utility cuts, patches and footpaths. Surface Quickfix is available in buckets, bags or bulk.
